Comparing 351C heads, 2V or 4V? Has anyone drove vehicles that had the 2V (open and quenched) 351C's who can compare them to vehicles with the 4V (open and quenched) 351C's? How would you compare them? My 351 Cleveland has 2V (open) heads, and I have never drove a 351C with 4V heads. What do you think? I've heard pro's/con's about both the 2V and 4V heads. Just wondering what your opinions/preferences are. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Well the difference is going to vary from application to application. I de-tuned my 1970 351C Cougar from a set of 4V open chamber heads to stock 2v heads, here is what I noticed. The car came equipped with an FMX & 3.08 9 inch rear end. It was a little better off the line with the 2V heads and it definitely lost power on the top end. The 351 had a lot more power to give on the top end with the 4V heads, in fact it had far more power than the stock chassis could handle. The gas mileage was worse of course, but it was worth it. Cleveland's respond to free breathing. I had a 1972 Cougar (my second Cougar) with a 351C 2V. I installed headers, 2.5" dual exhaust, dual plane aluminum intake w/a 750 Holley and a mild Isky cam. With all this it ran a little better. I also ran a Cougar GT hood scoop and a open air Moroso air cleaner, at the time I was doing this I ran a little side business reselling Ford parts. I had a 1970 Torino shaker hood scoop. One Sunday while I was drinking beer and grilling steaks, I pointed out to my buddy that the under hood support had a area stamped out in it about the same size as the Torino shaker. I was speculating if it was made that way for the continuation of the Eliminator option. One thing led to another and WHAMM, we installed the Torino Shaker on the car. It fit perfectly right down to the trim ring. The point I am trying to make is after I installed that air cleaner (Air Cleaner Construction R.C. Mckinlay PATENT 3,481,119) that 2V headed 351C took off like a house afire. Mr. McKinlay knew what he was doing when he designed that air cleaner for Ford. Cleveland's love to breathe. The only thing I regret about that car is that I sold it and I did not get a chance to see what that shaker did with 4V heads.Go buy and install 4V heads on your engine. TEACH YOURSELF. I didn't ask anybody when I was 18 if I should bolt on 4V heads, I just did it. I would'n change it for the world. It was FUN.

Thanks for the story! I have been trying to find a set of 4V closed chamber heads, but they're hard to come by and really expensive. I am surprised that the air cleaner made that much of a difference, but cold air intake is a big hp booster. I will look for a scoop also and try to find the shaker.
