Best Upgrade for 351C 2v
Dec 15 2008, 3:24 PM EST
Cam, heads, Intake?Current motor has the following: Bottom: 351C bore .30 TRW Forged L2416F-30 pistons (8.5 compression in this combo I believe?) Heads: 2V with 2.041 intake and 1.660 exhaust valves Cam: CS-1021R with following specs (Hydraulic camshaft,2000-4500 rpm range, 292 intake/ 302 exhaust adv.duration, duration @ .050 of 214 intake and 224 exhaust, Valve lift of .510 intake and .536 exhaust, Lobe C/L is 112.) Intake: Edelbrock 2V Performer Carb: Holley 750 Ignition: MSD 6AL Exhaust: Headers to side Exhaust (typical cobra style) On Dyno, it was HP 341@5100, TQ 401@3700 Car ~2500lb AC Cobra Trans: T5 5speed Gear: 3.50 9” Ford I want to be more in the 420-480hp range, want more top end, but still want to be able to cruise around in 4th gear at 40mph (~1800RPM). I was considering the following two cam options: Comp XE274H or Comp 284HR. Brakes and steering are manual, so not worried about vacuum. Also considering the Edelebrock Airgap. Or wondering if wasting my money until getting a set of aluminum heads? Thoughts? Do you find this valuable?

A cam swap won't do it, it'll just move the power band you have higher up the rpm range. You need some compression, at least 9.5:1 and the best way to do that is heads with smaller chambers; spend your money on some AFD or CHI 2V heads with the 62cc chambers and you'll get the compression you need to make some power and heads that should easily get you closer to 500 hp. And it will still idle and lug down to 1800 rpm. Do you find this valuable? |
