"Do you still have the fmx block and how much are you asking for it?" Yes i still have the block.I'am open to offers.I know their desirable to some people.I might trade for 2 nice 351C 2 bolt short block cores that have std.bores and std.cranks.Where are you located? I can ship my block but it might be costly.Mark.

Comparing 351C heads, 2V or 4V?
Has anyone drove vehicles that had the 2V (open and quenched) 351C's who can compare them to vehicles with the 4V (open and quenched) 351C's? How would you compare them? My 351 Cleveland has 2V (open) heads, and I have never drove a 351C with 4V heads. What do you think? I've heard pro's/con's about both the 2V and 4V heads. Just wondering what your opinions/preferences are.

Thanks for the story! I have been trying to find a set of 4V closed chamber heads, but they're hard to come by and really expensive. I am surprised that the air cleaner made that much of a difference, but cold air intake is a big hp booster. I will look for a scoop also and try to find the shaker.

Cam, heads, Intake?
Current motor has the following:
Bottom: 351C bore .30 TRW Forged L2416F-30 pistons (8.5 compression in this combo I believe?) Heads: 2V with 2.041 intake and 1.660 exhaust valves Cam: CS-1021R with following specs (Hydraulic camshaft,2000-4500 rpm range, 292 intake/ 302 exhaust adv.duration, duration @ .050 of 214 intake and 224 exhaust, Valve lift of .510 intake and .536 exhaust, Lobe C/L is 112.) Intake: Edelbrock 2V Performer Carb: Holley 750 Ignition: MSD 6AL Exhaust: Headers to side Exhaust (typical cobra style)
On Dyno, it was HP 341@5100, TQ 401@3700
Car ~2500lb AC Cobra Trans: T5 5speed Gear: 3.50 9” Ford
I want to be more in the 420-480hp range, want more top end, but still want to be able to cruise around in 4th gear at 40mph (~1800RPM). I was considering the following two cam options: Comp XE274H or Comp 284HR. Brakes and steering are manual, so not worried about vacuum. Also considering the Edelebrock Airgap. Or wondering if wasting my money until getting a set of aluminum heads?
Thoughts?

A cam swap won't do it, it'll just move the power band you have higher up the rpm range.
You need some compression, at least 9.5:1 and the best way to do that is heads with smaller chambers; spend your money on some AFD or CHI 2V heads with the 62cc chambers and you'll get the compression you need to make some power and heads that should easily get you closer to 500 hp.
And it will still idle and lug down to 1800 rpm.

Ok, I need to ditch my iron "Aussie" heads-too much compression for pump gas-so its time to get out the wallet again. I like the CHI heads, they look to be nicely machined right out of the box and they kicked ass at the Engine Masters Challenge; has anyone got any real hands-on experience with any of these heads? I'm going to use them on my 393 stroker in my Ranchero.

"I have a set of 2V (non-Aussie low compression) heads if you're interested." yeah, Hot Rod, I'm going to unload them shortly, but they wont be dirt cheap-----I've got $1500 into them already; I'll post pictures when they are off the car and ready to go. They are "Aussie" 302C heads, with the small 58cc closed chambers and the smaller 2V size ports; {I'll cc them again when they come off}, I went to town on these heads and put Manley stainless race 2.19/1.72 valves into them, hardened exhaust seats, bronze guides, CompCams "bee-hive" springs with 7* cro-mo locks, machined for teflon seals, guide plates and 7/16" rocker studs, a three angle valve job and cleaned up the bowls and ports and had them crack-checked. They have about a 500 miles on them now; They are good for 6500 rpm and up to 0.590" valve lift, and would work really well on a non-stroker motor with dished pistons. {mmmm, maybe I should build a little "Clevor"????} I'll post pictures when they are off the car and ready to go. I've already got two sets of 2V heads collecting dust, thanks. and two cranks, a 0.030" over 2V block, two iron two barrel manifolds, three two barrel carbs, an FMX tranny, an AOD tranny, three convertors, two driveshafts......no wonder there is no room in the garage!

I actually have a set of these from years ago. I used them on a set of Aussie Cleveland heads with no spacers and full roller 1.73 roller rockers with no issues at all. No spacers needed and the studs fit exactly how they were supposed to. I was surprised to see the pictures above because those are the exact colors I had mine powder coated. White lettering and all.

I also use these vavle covers. they are on a 69 boss 302 with hilborn fuel injection and a dry sump oiling system. I did not need anything special to install them and am using crower s/s rocker arms with a .600 lift cam , they look great and many people ask where they cam for.

Ah, you got a good woman, then. My wife seems to like mine, too, as long as I don't bang the gears too hard or go way too fast. Heh heh. Mostly, she probably appreciates that I spend my time on this kind of thing, instead of in the bars.
